MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Food Bank honored about 85 volunteers during their annual volunteer dinner held April 17.
“Our ability to serve our clients would be impossible without their talents and energy,” said Michael Mulligan, president of the food bank board of directors. “The board of directors extends their sincere thanks to all who have given their time and help to the food bank.”
A highlight of this year’s awards dinner was the presentation of a plaque to the family of well-known Marysville resident Lillie Lein. Lein died last year from a sudden brain aneurism.
For 15 years, Lein had served as secretary to the food bank board of directors. She also was well known for her work with Operation Marysville Community Christmas.
The food bank named Joe and Pat McGuire as the 2007 Volunteers of the Year. The couple have donated five years of service to the food bank, often working three days a week, said Alonna Chatburn, herself a volunteer with the food bank. Chatburn said the McGuires regularly take on a number of tasks, from displaying and preparing fresh vegetables to managing driver schedules and checking the expiration dates on baby food donations.
