MARYSVILLE – Four students won Indigenous Education awards at the quarterly breakfast put on by the Marysville School District Tuesday.

Brutal Madrigal, a fourth-grader at Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary, won for being kind, helpful and respectful to others.

Maleia Kicking Woman, another fourth-grader there, won for being kind and working hard, along with representing her culture by drumming every day and dancing. She was wrapped in love with a blanket, per her tradition.

Dominik Kendrick, a Marysville Middle School seventh-grader, won for being kind, helpful, outgoing, a leader and encouraging others. He also worked hard for major improvement in reading and had six A’s and one B.

Melissa Carpenter-Hammons, a junior at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, won for working hard and never giving up. She went from having a zero grade-point average as a freshman to a 3.8 now. She had five A’s and one A-. She also competes in motocross and had second- and third-place finishes at a recent race in Oregon.
