LAKEWOOD – It was just a jamboree but Lakewood’s 2A football team showed it could play with the big boys from Class 3A Friday as it hosted Mercer Island and Oak Harbor.
The field was split in half with first-stringers on one side and second-stringers on the other. The three teams took turns playing each other, seeing how far they could move the ball in a certain number of plays.
When the host Cougars took on the Wildcats from Oak Harbor, quarterback Jarred Taylor scored off a run-option play. But the Wildcats showed they can pass this year like they have in the past, connecting on a long play for a score.
Lakewood begins regular play Friday hosting Kings.
