ARLINGTON – At the beginning of the season Ferndale whipped Arlington 71-54.
But that was a long time ago in high school basketball.
The Eagles have come on strong the last part of the year, and they pulled out a 63-59 win over the visiting Golden Eagles Thursday night.
Sophomore sensation Ethan Martin willed the Eagles to victory, scoring 18 of his game high 29 points in the last quarter. The rest of the team only had two points that period.
Arlington actually was trailing going into the fourth 47–43. But they outscored the visitors 20-12 to take the win. It was a must-win play-in game as Arlington will now play at Stanwood Saturday in a 3A Northwest District Tournament game.
For the normally balanced Eagles it was a one-man show as Jaden Roskelley was the only other Eagle in double figures with 14. Will Abram added 7.
In the other play-in game, Squalicum beat Shorewood 63-51.
As a result, Squalicum will play at Marysville-Pilchuck Saturday at 7 p.m. Marysville Getchell will play at Shorecrest, also at 7 p.m.
In the 2A Northwest District Tournament, Liberty will play at Lakewood Saturday at 7 p.m. Liberty advanced by beating Sammamish Thursday in a play-in game 61-41.
In girls basketball, MG will play at Arlington tonight at 7. They are the only two local girls teams still playing. MG won its play-in game Wednesday night to advance with freshman Ellie Jackson leading the way scoring eight 3’s and 26 points.
