Boys wrestling

Cayden White placed third at 182 pounds in leading Marysville-Pilchuck to a 34th place finish at a huge tournament in Kent Saturday.

At home Tuesday, M-P whipped Mariner 66-17. At 120 pounds, Mikey Bejar won by pin in 1 minute, 49 seconds. Cameron Perrine pinned his foe in just 27 seconds at 132 pounds. At 138, Iakov Bondar also had a first-round pin in 1:42. And Douglas Cruz-Young won by pin in the second round at 3:29. Winning by forfeit were: Francisco Geraldes, Bodee Davis, Mauro Bejar, White, Kamiakin Craig, Francis Geronimo and Aiden Johnston. In girls wrestling, Lake Stevens edged the combined Marysville team 39-36 Tuesday.

Girls basketball

MG beat Mountlake Terrace 41-38, but M-P fell to Shorewood 49-42 Friday. The Tommies actually led 22-19 at the break and were leading by two after three quarters before falling at home. Madyson Baxter scored 14 and Lauren Lewis 10 in a losing effort.

Tuesday, Meadowdale beat MG 45-32. After being tied 8-8 after one period, the visitors outscored the home team 18-4 in the second. When Maddy Grandbois, who led the Chargers with 14, passed inside to Faith Sherman near the end of the third the lead was cut to 31-20, but that was as close as they could get.

Swimming

MG lost to Cascade 121-54 and M-P also lost 122-47 in a meet Tuesday. Ian Meetsma of M-P won the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 19.62 seconds. Teammate Andrew Kallio took the diving with 228.15 points. MG won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:53.95 with Chargers Kameron Wilkes, Andrew Christensen, Lincoln Wheeler and Hunter Brown on the squad.

Boys basketball

M-P gutted out a tough 65-60 win at Shorewood Friday. Up 33-25 at halftime, the home team clamped down on defense in the third quarter to take a four-point lead. But The Tommies got hot in the final period, outscoring Shorewood 21-12 to take the win. Cameron Stordahl led the winners with 24. Aaron Kalab pitched in 14 and Ethan Jackson 12. T.J. Severn came off the bench to help with 8. Luke Dobler was held to 7 and Brady Phelps did not score.

Meanwhile, Mountlake Terrace beat Marysville Getchell in a defensive battle 49-42. Malakhi Knight scored 24 for the home team.

ARLINGTON

Girls basketball

Now the Eagles have another player opponents have to worry about. Arlington, known for its balanced offense and pressing defense, was led by 6-1 freshman guard Jenna Villa in its 61-40 win over Meadowdale Friday. She had 20 points and five steals. Sophomore Keira Marsh, who has come into her own this year leading the team in many games, added 18 points. And junior Hailey Hiatt, a standout in previous years, added 11. Tuesday, the Eagles demolished Mountlake Terrace 80-21. Hiatt had 29, Makenzie Gage 15 and Josie Stupey 10.

The Eagles finished fifth in a tournament at Everett Saturday, led by Dorian Tollenaar finishing first at 120 pounds. Others placing for Arlington were: 113—T-3. Eric Vogel; 120—T-3. Casten Tollenaar; 138—T-3. Trevor Latta. 132—T-5. Cole Phillips.

Boys basketball

The Eagles dropped a home game to Meadowdale 55-44 Friday. Ethan Martin led the Eagles with 11 and Colby Williamson added 10.

Boys basketball

The Cougars won a couple of high-scoring affairs this week. First they took it to Ferndale Friday 84-69. Alex Jensen led a balanced attack with six players scoring in double figures. Jensen had 19, but scoring 13 apiece were Jackson Schultz, Shae Dixon and Kaiden Harrison. Scoring 11 each were Stacey Morgan and Jared Taylor. Then they edged Blaine 83-80 Tuesday, despite being outscored by the home team 33-24 in a fast-paced final quarter. Stacey led the team with 26 points. Jensen closed in on the school’s all-time scoring record with 20 points, and Shae Dixon also had 20.

Keegan Bach was the champion at 285 pounds to lead the Cougars to a sixth-place finish at an invitational at Shoreline Saturday. Eight others placed, including: Jack O’Hara, second, 113 pounds; Brenden McClellan, second, 152 pounds; Punchy O’Hara, third, 138 pounds; William Hayan, third, 170 pounds; Gage Wetzel, fourth, 145 pounds; Ephram Wright, fourth, 152 pounds; Dre Ang, fourth, 160 pounds; and Barrett Meyer, fourth, 195 pounds.
