Boys basketball
Marysville-Pilchuck lost a tough one at Lynden Monday 68-65 to fall to 6-2 on the year.
But the Tomahawks won a tournament Dec. 28 at Spanaway Lake beating the host team in the championship game 76-54.
The Tommies held Spanaway to 18 points in the first half, taking a 35-18 lead at intermission, and coasted from there.
Senior guard Luke Dobler led a balanced attack with 20 points. Cameron Stordahl added 19, Ethan Jackson 14 and Aaron Kalab 10.
M-P whipped Evergreen 69-33 the day before to make it to the finale.
The Tommies outscored Evergreen 37-6 in the middle two quarters to win going away.
Stordahl had 20, T.J. Severn 16 and Jackson 13 for the victors.
Meanwhile, Marysville Getchell won a tournament at Mountlake Terrace, beating Sunnyside Dec. 28 in a game that was close throughout 61-56.
Malakhi Knight led the Chargers with 28 points, with Josiah Koellmer getting 12 and Austin Townsend 11.
The Chargers reached those finals by beating Sammamish 66-57 Dec. 27.
MG took a 25-14 lead after one, and the teams played even from then on.
Knight again led the winners with 29. Koellmer added 19. Townsend and Alex Owens added 8 each.
Girls basketball
Visiting Mariner outscored the home team 12-4 in the final quarter to come from behind and beat M-P 41-35.
Junior forward Madyson Baxter got the Tommies off to a good start hitting a 3 and driving to the hoop for another score. When sophomore center Aubre Zackuse scored after breaking a press M-P led 9-8 after the first period.
Over the next eight minutes Mariner went on a 15-1 run. M-P didn’t score until a minute was left before halftime, on another 3 by Baxter. Kelsey Edge scored inside to make it 21-15 at the break.
M-P outscored Mariner 16-8 in the third quarter and it looked like they might get their second win of the season, until they went cold the final quarter.
Baxter led the losing team with 14. Edge and Lauren Lewis added 7 each.
Football
Offensive lineman Justin Albee of M-P was named to the all-state 3A football team. Honorable mentions went to teammates running back Jordan Justice and linebacker Mauro Bejar.
Also, former University of Washington Husky Tani Tupou, who grew up in Marysville, is playing for the Seattle Dragons of the new XFL League.

Boys basketball
Monday at Issaquah, the Eagles jumped out to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter then held the home team to just three points to lead 27-12 at halftime on the way to a 54-43 win.
Ethan Martin scored 14 and Joseph Schmidt 12 to lead the way, while Ryan Brown added 9.

Boys basketball
The Cougars beat Ellensburg 89-60 Dec. 28 after losing to Davis the day before 74-55.
Girls basketball
The Cougars edged Lummi Nation 27-25 after being soundly defeated by Renton 73-16 the day before.
Football
Linebacker Riley Krueger was named to the all-state 2A football team. Receiving honorable mention honors were teammates quarterback Jared Taylor and kicker Alan Sepulveda.
