ARLINGTON – The Arlington boys basketball team beat Shorecrest 68-64 Dec. 20.
The Eagles got off to a fast start, leading 21-14 at the end of the first quarter, then held on from there.
Ethan Martin’s hot outside shooting led the way as he hit three 3’s in the period as the home team got off to a 10-0 lead. Joe Schmidt added two of his own, plus two buckets after grabbing offensive rebounds, in the quarter. Will Abram’s steal and slam dunk gave the Eagles their biggest early lead at 21-9.
Girls basketball
The Eagles lost to Shorecrest 58-43 Dec. 20. Sierra Scheppele scored 14, Keira Marsh 11 and Hannah Rork 10.
Boys wrestling
The Eagles beat Ferndale 44-25 at home Dec. 19 in Wesco action. At 120 pounds, Dorian Tollenaar improved his record to 10-1 with a pin in 2 minutes, 43 seconds. Casten Tollenaar won by technical fall with a 20-3 romp at 126 pounds. At 145 pounds, Trevor Latta won 4-1. Dimitri Shaffer started off the match with a 15-9 win at 152 pounds. Sean Lee then won by pin in 2:32 at 160 pounds. At 220 pounds, Gabe Victors won 7-3 and Hunter Strande won by pin in 2:37 at 220 pounds. Eric Vogel won by pin in 1:21 at 113 pounds.
For Arlington at a tourney at Squalicum Dec. 21, the Eagles were ninth as a team. Placing were: 3. Eric Vogel at 113 pounds; 2. Dorian Tollenaar, 5. Casten Tollenaar, at 120; 3. Cole Phillips, at 132; 2. Trevor Latta, at 138; and 5. Sean Lee, at 160.
Girls wrestling
Arlington was in fourth place in at least a 26-team tourney at Lynden Dec. 20. Advancing to the quarterfinals were: Taylor Chapman at 105 pounds; Kate Rosson at 125; Tailer Cochran at 130; Souzanna Crew at 170; and Brianna Williams-Bal at 235. The Eagles ended up 10th Dec. 21. Placing were: Rosson, fourth, and Crew, sixth.
